My passion for physical fitness began at a young age.  I Idolized action heroes such as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I started lifting weights with my dad in our garage at age 13, and I embraced the bodybuilding mentality for the next 20 years. I was able to achieve great gains in strength and size, but unfortunately for me, these attributes did not translate into improved athleticism. At that time, my fitness level was only measured by the amount of weight that I could bench press.

Finding my first calling – firefighting
I joined the Fire Service in 1993. I loved team sports growing up and was drawn to the “process of preparation” required to be successful in athletics, academics, and overcoming other challenges…

I am Alaina Sawaya – highly competitive, passionate and perpetually looking for ways to grow my capabilities. I have an insatiable drive to live fully; to be faster, stronger, smarter, healthier, more resilient and more deeply connected with the people I love.

Not just a fitness shift… a paradigm shift
Pursuing high standards led me to discovering TACFIT, where I met Scott Sonnon, the founder of TACFIT. The more I studied his work and shadowed his techniques, the more I discovered not just a confluence of radically intelligent training principles, but the source of a paradigm shift in my way of thinking.

Over the years I have failed hard. And failure has taught me to become more intentional in my habits and more closely aligned with my values.

This is something that has been in the works for more than 10 years. I know it will help our First Responders and Firefighters, as well as anyone in our TACFIT community who would like to train like a Firefighter.

Our Founder, Scott Sonnon, originally developed TACFIT with our First Responders in mind, so it is an honor to carry on this work in greater fashion. I would like to thank all of our First Responders and Firefighters who keep us safe every day.

I first met our Founder and Creator of TACFIT®, Scott Sonnon, when he was contracted to be my strength and conditioning coach for one my UFC fights. I had suffered a bad neck injury after being thrown on my head. Coach Sonnon showed me a series of movements and showed me how I could heal myself through movement. It was an experience that blew my mind; one I would never forget.

Since that day, I became fascinated with TACFIT®. Years later, I had the opportunity to attend a TACFIT® Certification and felt like I got a second chance at life, to really live my best life in every aspect. I sought out and went to every TACFIT® workshop, seminar and certification around the world. I became a TACFIT® Team Leader and eventually became involved in TACFIT® as its CEO. I believe in the work of Coach Sonnon because it has changed my life and the lives of millions of people, and I know it will change your life, too.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Eric “Esik” Melland, TACFIT U.S. Director” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23e00034″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”15283″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

As Esik is a certified TACFIT Team Leader with over 10 years of experience in the protocols of TACFIT. His evolution led him to develop training methods with steel mace. As a Steel Mace Master Coach, he became founder of Viking Ninja and is currently the CEO. A sought after personal trainer, his career led him to train clients in the NFL, UFS, MLB and NHL. He’s also an accomplished writer, music producer, photographer, creative director and content director.

He brings the heart of a warrior to his role as US Director. His personal discipline is infused in every work-put, and his leadership inspires us to assimilate his life’s motto, “Kill your ego, challenge your discipline.”
